I grew up in The Bronx, less than a mile from Yankee Stadium. In 1947, when I was 8 years old, my father took me to a Red Sox-Yankees game and told me about Ted Williams. I still recall that game. The Yankees won 1-0; their pitcher was Bobo Newsome. You can look it up; it was August 1947. I recall my disappointment. Since then, I have been a loyal Sox fan with many painful and happy memories (2004)! Growing up near Yankee Stadium was not easy.
